They don’t come any better than Eyewitness Travel Guides. We used it extensively on our recent trip to Venice and the surrounding areas. The guide provides enough detail to get one going and lavish illustrations to whet one’s appetite for the real things to be seen. The book is sized right and has ample ancillary material (survival guide, street maps, vaporetto routes, even Italian phrases for English speakers) to be a useful item to carry along easily. If one can take only one resource on a trip to Venice, I’d recommend this one.
